"Old Iron Balls"
Massive and heavy, standing 8 feet tall and weighing a quarter of a ton, Magos Coleco is a fearsome sight. Travelling the worlds of the Calixis sector is proving to be less than productive and his sights are turning to the Kronos expanse.
Appearance
Coleco is a massive, heavy, male dressed in a short-sleeved Ad Mech robe. The robe bulges and flows in strange ways as his substructure moves - his augmentation obvious. Standing eight feet tall, and wearing a huge superframe containing motivators, microgravity stabilizers and power generation systems. Heat sinks release plasma and coolant when he exerts himself.
Below his sleeves his arms are massive, and sheathed with off-white carapace plating. At a brief glance they may be mistaken for human arms, but when you observe more closely they are plates bolted through the underlying biological limb. The limb itself is huge and bulky - deformed with what looks like bulbous veins, but is more likely to be pneumatic or hydraulic conduits.
His face is a mass of scars and technology. A vox-grill covers his nose and mouth. One eye is entirely absent, with only a livid scar remaining - the other is entirely enclosed in a ocular display unit.
Attached via a huge, quick release hose to his backpack unit, he carries a massive heavy weapon. Those who can identify it will recognise it as a Mars Pattern Multi-Melta, usually mounted on tanks, weapons platforms or Space Marines - Coleco wields is as though it weighed nothing.
Who knows what may be found under his robe?
History
Adam Coleco was born in the incubation chambers of %WORLD%. After undergoing standard indoctrination and knowledge infusion, a basic administrative error caused his test results to be overwritten by a random series of numbers. Coleco, whilst still certified for sentient operation, was assigned to low-priority maintenance of down-hive sewerage and HVAC. Still a low ranking member or the Adeptus, Coleco worked tirelessly to ensure the systems he cared for would perform at peak efficiency. Unknown to his superiors, he begged, borrowed or stole parts and equipment from his brothers to ensure that his plant performed.
His dedication was noticed as excess air and water flowed from the down-hive processing plant for the first time in centuries. After cleansing and upgrades, Coleco was assigned to the Skitarii motor pool working on main battle tanks and heavy weapons platforms. He remained in this position for almost fifteen years - serving in the field as well as on the forge world. A large number of augments were made this his person to enhance his survivability on the battlefield.
During an engagement with human pirates during a stop-over in an uncharted asteroid field, the ship carrying Coleco's division was holed and declared lost. Hundreds of vehicles, ancient technologies - plasma, melta, and power weapons - were lost to opportunistic pirate attack. Badly injured, but surviving due to his augments, Coleco was recovered by the salvaging pirates. They implanted a pain-goad into his bio-systems and forced him to maintain their armoury.
It took five years of abuse and torture before the imperial navy finally ran down the pirate fleet and boarded. Nearly blind, atrophied and working through touch, Calico's pride was still whole as the naval tech adepts entered the armoury to be presented with a perfectly maintained and functional. There was even found, amongst the horde of tech, a number of xeno and archeotech devices along with detailed documentation and functional references.
Repatriated to his tech brothers, Calico was venerated. His musculature was rebuilt and augmented to the very best ability of the brotherhood. His vision had been permanently damaged, and even the best Medicae could only restore standard functionality. To make up for this, an Auger Array was implanted. After metal reforming, and additional training, Calico was inducted into the Collegiate Explorator and tasked with examining macro-scale xeno and archoloical technologies; his new musculature and hard life allowing him to manipulate heavy items without the requirement for servitor assistance.
Mental reformation managed to smooth most of the psychological damage but an underlying aggression remained. Focusing on plasma and fusion-vapour technologies Calico set out to explore the Calixis sector in search of new ideas and abandoned artefacts. Briefly fascinated by Orc technology, Calico petitioned the Mechanicus for access to the advanced Machinator technology, usually reserved for the Mechanicus Secutors. Whilst warning that Orc technology holds no useful, they permitted the installation - knowing that as an Explorator he was going anyway and his loss would be a huge blow to the Mechanicus. Tagging on to an imperial invasion of an Orc world, now Magos Explorator Coleco fought on the front lines to observe the way Orc technology functioned in the hands of it's creators.
Producing a brilliant thesis on possibly modes of operation for the Orc psychic network on their weapons, and a possibly combination of magnetic and void fields which could replicate it, Coelco moved on unfulfilled.
Spending the next few years with the Battlefleet Calixis, investigating Xenos incursions and tech-Heresy, Coleco explored the Calixis sector. Finding little new in the way of Tech and knowledge, Coleco began to turn his eyes towards the boundaries of the Imperium. For a few years now, frustration had been building - when he did find new technology, and identified ways to use it to improve the lot of Imperial forces, his reports were taken, praised and filed. The lack of movement and fluidity in the imperial tech estate gnawed and Calico begin to experiment.
Acquiring a damaged example of Imperial heavy melta technology, Coleco set to work repairing and upgrading. Carefully merging captured Eldar field technology with the standard Imperial technology, and creating new long lasting energy system from modified plasma cannon accumulators. The final result was a standard Mars pattern Multi-Melta with upgraded internals - massively reducing the possibility of fusion containment failure. Knowing the weapon would cause comment were it ever examined, Coleco set off to find passage to the Kronos expanse where he could use and optimise his new design without interference from his Adeptus Mechanicus bretheren.
