Octavius recorded these markings from the top of the Fivefold Tower for later study and possible translation.
This will be an Extended Skill Test involving Literacy and Forbidden Lore (Xenos). It requires one
Hard (-20) Forbidden Lore (Xenos) Test at the start of every three weeks of work, and one
Arduous (-40) Literacy Test at the end of each dedicated week of work.
Failure on a Literacy Test by less than three degrees means no progress is made during that week.
Failure on a Forbidden Lore (Xenos) Test by less than three degrees means that no more progress can be made until a further week of study is made on the work already in hand, which allows a re-roll of the failed Forbidden Lore (Xenos) Test.
Failure on either Test by three degrees or more means that the translation can go no further. A partial translation may have been achieved by this stage depending on when failure occurs. You gain 1 Corruption Point per Degree of Failure on this roll, from exposure to unclean influences.
Succeeding on a Literacy Test by three or more degrees of success means two weeks’ progress is made in the space of one week. Succeeding on a Forbidden Lore (Xenos) Test by three or more degrees of success grants a +10 bonus to the next three Literacy Tests made for this extended task.
It takes an accumulated total of 8 weeks of dedicated work to complete this translation. This is a minimum of 4 Literacy Tests and 2 Forbidden Lore Tests over four weeks’ time.
